Body Odor Causes

Body lotionWhile it's commonly thought that sweat is what causes body odor, this isn't technically true. The bad smells of body odor are connected to bacteria being released from the body with the sweat. It's not a good idea to eliminate sweating, though, because the body uses sweat as a way to cool down the body's temperature. It's also used as a way to eject harmful substances from the body.

There are several different types of sweat found in human bodies. One of the smelliest sweats is released from the Apocrine glands. It's a well known fact that caffeine increases production of this type of smelly sweat in the body. (Quick Body Odor Tip: drinking lots of water can help dilute this type of sweat before it escapes your body, helping with odors.)

Some people suffer from severe forms of body odor caused by excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes people to sweat profusely, causing an increase in body odors. While not many people are afflicted by this condition, if you think you may be, consulting with a doctor is recommended.
